Asia FX Talk · MSCI downgrade risk adds to IDR headwinds
MUFG keeps a cautious IDR bias, expecting USD/IDR at 18,350 in Q4 2026 and 18,500 in Q1 2027. Drivers include elevated US yields, an oil-driven trade balance squeeze, a harder Bank Indonesia trade-off and MSCI's consultation on reclassifying Indonesia from Emerging to Standalone, with a decision due by 30 June 2027. A possible October Fed pause may ease pressure but is unlikely to reverse the rupiah trend.
