Crypto Daily | October 17, 2026

[Price] BTC is at $81,233 (24h -0.44%), still trading in the $80k–$87k range. It briefly fell below $80k to $79,770 on Thursday this week, rebounded to $82,750 on Friday and then pulled back—the lower edge of the range has withstood its first test. ETH is at $2,406 (-1.48%), underperforming on a relative basis.

[Sentiment] The Fear & Greed Index is 55 (Greed), down from the previous reading of 63. Greed has cooled but has not turned to fear: the market is cautiously optimistic within the range, and the willingness to chase highs has declined.

[Fund Flows] Spot BTC ETFs saw only $5.06M in net inflows on October 15 (Thursday, US Eastern time): IBIT alone bought $205.78M net, single-handedly offsetting net outflows from the other products. Cumulative net outflows in October are about $535M. Institutions are still bleeding, and IBIT alone cannot sustain this; until outflows stop, this is the biggest obstacle to BTC attacking the upper edge of the $87k range.

[Related Assets] MSTR: In an interview with Bloomberg on October 14, Saylor said BTC has bottomed and is expected to return to six figures, with 20–30% annualized growth over the next 20 years; the analyst mean target is $238 (about +60% vs. the current price); Q3 earnings will be released after the close on October 29. MSTR is +5.6% this week, outperforming spot BTC, and is a leveraged expression of BTC exposure.

[Assessment] BTC has been stuck in the $80k–$87k range for more than a week: below, there is buying support at the $80k round-number level; above, there is selling pressure from continued ETF outflows. Fear & Greed has fallen from 63 to 55, short-term appetite for chasing highs is fading, and this is not a position for chasing longs. The real directional choice must wait for one of two things: ETF fund flows turning from negative to positive, or a break below $80k triggering stop-loss selling. September PPI rose +1.3% month over month, far exceeding expectations, and the macro level also does not support risk assets taking off immediately. Strategy: do not chase within the range; wait for outflows to stop or for a breakdown before acting.

[Data Notes] Prices: CoinGecko; sentiment: alternative.me Fear & Greed Index; ETF fund flows: CoinDesk / TradingNews (October 16 report); MSTR: company disclosures and media interviews. The Binance market data API was unavailable due to regional restrictions, so funding rate data was not used in this issue.
