Google Energy Chief: Space Data Centers Cost Up to 100 Times More Than Earth-Based Ones

[The Information] Data centers in space could cost up to 100 times as much as those on Earth, Google's head of data center energy said this week. "Let's explore all the terrestrial options before we go extraterrestrial," Amanda Peterson Corio said at The Information's WTF summit, a gathering of senior women in the technology and finance industries. The comments came from a company that itself is testing AI server chips in orbit, and as SpaceX's orbital data center plans underpin part of its roughly $1.8 trillion market capitalization.
