Anthropic announced that it will contribute 5% of the company's equity to the newly established Anthropic Public Benefit Fund. The fund is a limited liability company wholly owned by Anthropic and may donate to traditional nonprofit organizations or distribute funds directly to specific groups, but will not be used for lobbying or political donations. For every 50% increase in the company's valuation, the board may inject an additional 2% of equity into the fund. Together with the co-founders' earlier pledge to donate 80% of their personal wealth and the employee matching program, Anthropic said that cumulatively about 20% of the company's equity will be used for public benefit purposes. The impact of AI on the job market is one of the fund's priority areas. Anthropic has previously pledged $200 million to study the issue and said that given the pace of AI progress, "more decisive measures may be needed."
